About Meg Gaddum

I live in a big wide harbour landscape where the tide rules whether I'm in the studio or I'm out paddleboarding or fossicking

Bio

Meg Gaddum

Her abstract art delves into the interplay between freedom and control, a dynamic she believes profoundly shapes human character. “We yearn for freedom, yet as we mature, we realise that certain guidelines for living can paradoxically evoke a sense of liberation.”

Employing oils and compatible mediums such as cold wax, ink, pencil, and collage, she combines the gestural with structured elements. Gaddum likens her creative process to music, where shapes, marks, and colours echo the meditative and immersive qualities found in musical compositions. “Listening to music can be a deeply immersive experience. Its rhythmic patterns and variations communicate directly, much like I hope viewers of my artwork can appreciate visually.”

Her background in farming, horticulture, a deep affinity for nature, masters in landscape architecture, and upbringing within an artistic family collectively inform her artistic vision. Located on the shores of Ohiwa Harbour in the eastern Bay of Plenty, she welcomes visitors to her studio to engage with her work firsthand.
