Bio

Meg Gaddum

Much of Meg Gaddum’s life has been on isolated farms in the New Zealand hill country where the beautiful natural surroundings nurtured her love of art. She grew up with artists in her extended family, visiting, painting, attending galleries with them and being provided with art materials and later art prints bought on their overseas trips. “I was given, aged about 10, a box of French pastels which were so juicy and densely pigmented, they flowed onto my sketches.”

Ability in science took her into a career in agriculture and then horticulture, followed by a masters in landscape architecture. This degree returned her to painting and drawing and convinced her to pursue an art career. Her learning has been from books, workshops and online courses.  She paints abstract landscapes influenced by what she sees and critiques. Climate change, housing and land development are commentaries in her work but she also strives to make that work bring delight.

With grown up children, she now lives on the shores of beautiful Ohiwa Harbour with her husband Bob and two dogs. She is regularly accepted into regional art shows in NZ and also sells work from her studio.
